Knowledge and Skills Statement

Composition: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts--writing process. The student uses the writing process recursively to compose multiple texts that are legible and uses appropriate conventions.

Use los siguientes criterios de evaluación para checar el progreso de los estudiantes con el objetivo de que dominen esta expectativa estudiantil. Esta expectativa debe ser evaluada tanto al momento en que los estudiantes están desarrollando borradores como al momento en que los han finalizado.

Editing is a stage in the writing process when a written text is prepared for an audience by attending to and correcting mechanics, grammar, and spelling. Applying the standards of the English language correctly helps the audience more easily comprehend the information because it is not having to interrupt thinking to determine what the writer intended to say.
Students are expected to demonstrate an understanding of the functions of prepositional phrases and to use them effectively in their writing. Prepositional phrases begin with the preposition and include its object and any words used to modify the object. Prepositional phrases can be used to modify a verb, like estudiar in the sentence María Luisa vino a casa para estudiar matemáticas to modify a noun, like libro in El libro está sobre la mesita de noche.
Prepositions are words placed before a noun or pronoun that help express the relationship of that word to other parts of the sentence. Students are expected to know that prepositions indicate where or when something exists. For example, the word entre in the statement, La casa de Ramiro está entre la de Eloísa y la mía, lets a reader know the location of Ramiro’s house.
