Knowledge and Skills Statement

Composition: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts--writing process. The student uses the writing process recursively to compose multiple texts that are legible and uses appropriate conventions.

Students are expected to use adjectives effectively in their writing, demonstrating an understanding of how adjectives create specificity by describing the quality or quantity of something. Adjectives are words that describe or modify a noun or pronoun (e.g., fuerte in El león lanzó un rugido muy fuerte and azul/ bonito in El vestido azul de mi tía es muy bonito). In Spanish, adjectives are generally placed after nouns (El cisne tiene plumas blancas). Additionally, in Spanish there should always be an agreement among articles, nouns, and adjectives in singular or plural forms. In the following sentence, El árbol enorme de mi vecino da mucha sombra, the first components of the sentence: article (El), noun (árbol), and adjective (enorme) are in singular form. It would be incorrect to write El árbol enormes de mi vecino da mucha sombra or Los árbol enorme de mi vecino da mucha sombra.
During the editing stage of the writing process, students further improve their draft and often prepare it for publishing by correcting errors, adding clarity, and using more precise and effective word choice. Students may add, delete, or rearrange words or sentences and remove unnecessary information.
